My new receiver - Denon AVR-1609

By Riley Storm (8 HTN votes, HTN ranking = 7.88) @ Aug 23 2009 03:27 pm

I would like to get 5.1 surround sound so my first step was to buy a receiver. I went with the Denon AVR-1609 mostly because of the price was cheap. It has 2 HDMI inputs, 75W per channel, and all the basics I need. It can’t decode DTS-HD MA, but I’m not sure if I’ll need it. Connecting everything wasn’t difficult and just set up the Audyssey microphone to get the speakers at the right volume. So far, everything is working. Will post if anything changes.

I went and purchased my first HDTV a few months ago during the Superbowl deals. It’s a
Samsung LN52A650 and it has 1080p and a good contrast ratio. we’ve been happy with the picture quality although there are some annoying reflection issues when its bright outside.

I also have a PS3, an older DVD player, and a satellite box for Direct TV. The older DVD player is not used anymore as we use the PS3 instead. My speakers aren’t anything special. That’s probably what I’ll upgrade next.

My home network is a normal wireless network. We have a couple of latops in the house and a office computer.
