I haven't tried Window's 7 yet either, but I might if I get some free time during the upcoming holidays.

Has anyone sucesffuly tried Windows 7 on their HTPC? I like Windows 7 enough that I wouldn't mind updating my HTPC's Window's XP ...but I'm worried about any HDMI issues that may come up. I heard Window's 7 has more restrictions. I use my HTPC as a blu-ray player so any issues with HDMI including 7.1 master audio would be a deal breaker for me. Also my HTPC goes through a receiver which I'm not sure how Window's 7 would treat the receiver.

Turns out it was the Nvidia driver causing the problems. The newer drivers have a "feature" to help with overscan issues that was causing HDCP syncing issues. I went back to an older 182.08 version and haven't had any problems in over a week.

Now I can sit back and enjoy the 7.1 surround sound!

To give a status update, I'm still having random sync issues. Usually turning on/off the receiver will fix the problem, but I shouldn't have to do that extra step. Hopefully I'll have some time to work on it this weekend.

OK, so I tried updating my receivers firmaware and it don't work. I then tried to uplug everything and it dodn't work. What did work (at least so far) is switch the DVI inputs on my video card. Hopefully there won't be anymore HDMI sync issues, but I'm not confident.

I just got my Xonar card installed. Everything was working fine for a couple days with bitstreaming working and DTS-HD MA showing up on my receiver. However, now I just get a black screen when my HTPC starts up. I’m guessing it some BS HDCP handshacking issue with my HTPC and the receiver, but was wondering if anyone had any other suggestions. I have a Denon 3808 receiver and a Win XP HTPC with a Nvidea 8800 GTS video card.

The black screen starts after the Win XP opening logo. I don’t get why it worked for a couple days (with multiple reboots), and now won’t work at all.

I’m curious if people are still having problems connecting HTPCs (or laptops) to their HDTV. I have a DLP which is about 3 years old now, and I had trouble at first connecting it to my HTPC. There were big overscan issues and the drivers for the video card were misbehaving. Eventually I got it to work using the component connection and setting up the video card settings to a resolution of 1152 x 648 pixels. I wasn’t getting full 720p resolution, but it worked so I was happy.
The video card drivers now come with HDTV settings so I set it up to 720p and have no issues. The VGA ports on most new HDTVs should also make things easier.

There were a few. Usually new movies that just came out. 3:10 to Yuma was the last one I remember. It was annoying having just bought the Blu-ray and not be able to watch it. It led me to finally break down and buy a PS3.

thanks for being one of the first matto. I have PowerDVD right now. The best I can say is thats it OK. There's been times when Blu-rays didn't play which annoyed me enough to get a PS3. I got Total Media Theater trial version and it played everyone of my movies. If it was up to me, I would probably pick TMT.

Woot! I’m one of the first. … I’m looking for the best blu-ray software for an HTPC. I narrowed it down to PowerDVD and Total Home media. Anybody have problems with either of them?
