mrHTN, thanks for the response.

Is there a quick-start guide into MIOS & Vera? Both on the software development side & the end-device development side?

We've been focused on Vera with one of the main reason being how inexpensive it is. They also have software coming out for PCs, but its still in development now. API information can be found at their MIOS software development page.

Hi,

I'm keen on home automation, but the cost gets me down.

I have an old PC that I want to use as a server, and for starters I want to just control a set of curtains. What API & wireless protocol should I be looking into for my devices?

Previously I've made Bluetooth & ZigBee devices (a few lights & a kettle), but I'm looking to go more "standards centric" both for portability & so that other people can easily understand & contribute other device implementations.

Is the AutoHTN source available?

Cheers,
Greg

Yep, Vera has Scenes which allow you setup events. You can create a Scene which looks for a motion sensor trigger. If its tripped, it will set off an event to change the thermostat temperature.

Gotcha. Sounds good.

I checked out the Vera. Looks like I can control my thermostat with it without much of a problem. I can also hook motion/IR sensors to it, which would be pretty cool.

Would it be possible, for example, to have it set the thermostat to a certain temperature if it detects someone downstairs, and another (colder) temperature if it detects someone upstairs? Maybe also a warmer temp. when no one is home?

Gotcha, thanks for the quick reply. For other devices besides Vera, would you control the device via a web page?

The first step is to get a controller. There are many different types out there depending on how much you want to spend. Full systems from Creston or Control 4 are available, but will cost you. I have a Vera unit at my house because it was relatively inexpensive and it works with Z-wave or Insteon devices which could be found anywhere. The thermostat I have at my house is Trane Z-wave device too, but there are many different ones available.
On the Android side, we should have a beta version of AutoHTN available which does control Thermostats. The beta version of AutoHTN will only work with Vera.

Hello,

I'm interested in setting up a way to control my thermostat using my Android phone. What would I need to install in order to do this?
